With clearing for the Logan Enhancement Project complete, bulk earthworks are now well underway throughout the project corridor.
Bulk earthworks are being undertaken in areas where new roads will be constructed, for example, the service roads on either side of the Logan Motorway between the Gateway Extension Motorway interchange and Mt Lindesay Highway/Beaudesert Road interchange.
In addition, ground improvement activities such as preloading have commenced. Preloading involves placing earthwork materials over underlying softer materials, which will settle over time. Preloading accelerates the settlement of the embankment, creating a firm foundation for the new roads to be constructed.
Transurban Queensland Project Director, Andrew Baker, said the start of bulk earthworks is a significant milestone for the project.
“The new road alignments are really starting to take shape,” Andrew said.
“Bulk earthworks also include stripping top soil, and in total, approximately 600,000 cubic metres of top soil and fill will be moved within the project corridor.
“Where possible, material is reused locally as part of our commitment to constructing the project in a sustainable manner.”
