Why is the project needed?
The 30km Logan Motorway is a vital transport link that connects Logan with Ipswich in the west, the Gold Coast in the south as well as the Port of Brisbane, Airport and Australia Trade Coast precincts in the north.
Increasing traffic, continuing growth
In the past decade traffic on the Logan Motorway has doubled with an 800% increase in commercial vehicles. Currently commercial vehicles account for around 30% of all traffic, with one-in-twelve vehicles being B-doubles or semi-trailer.
This traffic increase is largely due to the strong population and employment growth in the south and west of Brisbane.
With South East Queensland’s population continuing to grow an upgrade to the Logan Motorway is needed to alleviate further pressure on the Logan Motorway and Gateway Extension Motorway.
The Logan Enhancement Project will address current traffic issues such as:
- increasing congestion
- increasing travel time
- rat running on local streets
- increasing rates of road accidents
- an increasing volume of commercial and heavy vehicles on the motorway.
